Ages 6-10

9 AM - 2 PM

$60 per participant

Our youngsters camp is perfect for the beginner to intermediate student who is looking for the opportunity to learn a new skill or continue their knowledge. We will start the day by checking in and getting to know each other. Once everyone is checked in we will begin preparing feed for the horses. We will learn about the different types of forage and grain that horses can eat, along with the purpose of each. Each participant will get a chance to scoop or mix feed and administer simple medications. Then we will go and gather Jake, Dreamer, and Sassy to bring them inside. While they are eating we will refresh their stalls with new hay and make sure we scrub out their water buckets. After chores we will start grooming and saddling. Students will each get the chance to groom and handle all of the different tools needed to prepare the horses for riding. Each student will be put into groups and paired with a horse and handler. Everyone will get their own customized mini lesson from Madeline and ride independently if they are ready. After riding we will untack the horses and eat lunch, then finish the day with crafts and games. In the Summer months we will be doing water play after crafting, please make sure your child wears their bathing suit under their clothes, or they can change in the house before playing.

Our next age group is also great for beginner to advanced students. In this camp we will be learning more about husbandry, anatomy, equipment/tack parts and cleaning, as well as identifying different types of tack. We will begin in the morning checking in. Once everyone has checked in we will begin talking more in depth about horses feeding schedules and digestive systems. As we mix feed we will discuss different diets for different types of horses. Once we have prepared their feed we will gather up the horses. As they are eating we will begin chores. Every student will be cleaning stalls, scrubbing water buckets, and helping to tidy up. After chores the students will independently groom and saddle their horses, and will be matched in a group with a horse in instructor. As the riding portion begins we will focus on walking, turning, and stopping independently on horseback. We will do core strengthening exercises along with balance challenges. We will also work on trotting if the student is ready. After riding we will spray off the horses and have lunch. While we eat lunch and wrap up the day we will be going over the anatomy portion and learning the tack parts. We may even get our hands dirty and scrub some tack!
